La Vieille Grange is in an area containing many historic castles, chateaux and some of the most beautiful villages of France. The Dordogne river is 15 minutes drive away  as is the ancient walled city of Sarlat, famous for its stunning mediaeval architecture and vibrant street and theatre entertainment. Much of the hundred years war was fought in the Dordogne and there is a wealth of mediaeval chateaux, fortified villages and museums full of fascinating artefacts. At nearby Montignac you can visit the amazing prehistoric cave paintings of Lascaux.

The Dordogne is famous for its wonderful food and wine and the nearby village of Salignac (2 miles) has a good range of shops and a market selling local produce. There are a number of excellent restaurants including a 13^th century chateau with menus at a range of prices, within 15 minutes drive. The wine growing areas of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cahors are all within a pleasant drive, just waiting to be explored.
